GPM's 2025 Net Positive Commitment and 2024 Carbon Impact

Reflecting on 2024: Progress & Lessons Learned

At GPM, we recognize that our direct carbon footprint is not large—we do not operate extensive facilities or industrial operations. The majority of our emissions come from business travel, digital infrastructure, and purchased goods.

However, we firmly believe that sustainability isn’t just about scale—it’s about leadership. There are hundreds of thousands of organizations just like us that may feel their footprint is too small to make a difference. We reject that mindset. Instead, we aim to set the standard for service-based, digitally driven organizations by proving that businesses of any size can become net positive contributors to the planet.

Our 2024 Carbon Emissions & Offsetting Impact

In 2024, GPM’s total carbon emissions amounted to 16.9 tonnes CO₂e, with:

  • 15.5 tonnes attributed to business travel.
  • 1.43 tonnes resulting from purchased goods.

2024 Emissions Report

Offset Impact from Tree Planting

Through our Ambassador Program and Online Book Sales Offset Pledge, we planted over 1,000 trees. However, since these trees are not yet mature, we cannot fully claim their carbon sequestration for 2024. Using a conservative sequestration estimate of 6 kg (0.006 tons) per tree in 2024, the total carbon removed from the atmosphere was:

1,000 trees × 0.006 tons CO₂ = 6 tons CO₂

2024 Net Carbon Balance

  • Total Emissions16.9 tons CO₂e
  • Carbon Sequestered6 tons CO₂e
  • Final Net Impact+10.9 tons CO₂e

This means that in 2024, GPM offset approximately 35.5% of its emissions but was still net positive in emissions (not yet carbon neutral or carbon positive).

2025 Commitment: Achieving Net Positive Carbon Impact

GPM is making a bold commitment:

In 2025, we will become Net Positive—removing more carbon from the atmosphere than we emit.

This means that for every tonne of CO₂ we produce, we will remove more than one tonne, actively contributing to climate restoration. Our approach is not about doing less harm—it’s about regenerating the environment and leading by example. There are some who are now claiming to lead in sustainability—but leadership is proven through actions, not wordsIf you want to set the standard, this is how you back it up.

How We Will Achieve Net Positivity in 2025

1. Eliminating Emissions Where Possible

  • Optimizing Business Travel:
    • Reduce non-essential travel and shift more engagement to virtual platforms.
    • Prioritize low-emission travel options, including sustainable aviation initiatives.
  • Sustainable Procurement:
    • Require all purchased goods and services to meet low-carbon and circular economy standards.
    • Work exclusively with carbon-conscious vendors to reduce indirect emissions.

2. Scaling Regenerative Offsets

  • Expanding Reforestation & Carbon Sequestration Projects
    • Plant a minimum of 2,500 trees in 2025, ensuring a more immediate sequestration impact.
    • Increase investments in soil restoration and regenerative agriculture, which have faster carbon drawdown rates than trees alone.
  • Investing in High-Impact Carbon Removal Technologies
    • Support direct air capture (DAC) projects to accelerate permanent carbon removal.
    • Explore blue carbon initiatives, such as mangrove restoration, which capture up to 5x more carbon than forests.

3. Strengthening Digital Sustainability

  • Maintain 100% renewable energy usage for our digital and cloud infrastructure.
  • Further optimize web performance to reduce the digital carbon footprint of our online platforms.

Why This Matters: Setting the Model for Others

We recognize that our emissions are relatively small compared to large corporations, but we also know that our leadership can have a far greater impact. There are hundreds of thousands of businesses just like us—organizations that may not have high emissions but still have a responsibility to lead. Our commitment is about proving that every business, regardless of size, can be regenerative. By achieving Net Positive in 2025, we aim to set a precedent: if we can do it, so can others.

Looking Ahead: A Regenerative Future

Our 2024 progress laid the groundwork, and our 2025 goal will make GPM one of the few organizations in our sector to achieve Net Positive status.

We invite our partners, stakeholders, and peers to join us. Let’s go beyond neutrality and turn sustainability into a force for healing and regeneration.

At GPM, we don’t just manage projects. We regenerate the world.
